Arame Salad
Monday, April 27, 2009 at 11:34AM Seaweed Salad is one of my favorite foods. I'm also a true lover of dishes that are simple, easy, and quick. The Arame Salad I made this past weekend was all three. I enjoy this salad because it has a very earthy, ocean-like flavor too it. Unlike the seaweed salad I order in restaurants this salad is not very sweet and accents the natural flavors of the seaweed nicely.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup dried Arame seaweed
3 T rice vinegar
1 1/2 tsp agave nectar
1 T soy sauce, or Braggs
2 T matchstick cucumber sticks
1 T thinly peeled carrot strips
sesame seeds to garnish
How You'll Do It:
Presoak seaweed in a bowl by covering the seaweed in a generous amount of water. Soak for 5 minutes. Then, transfer seaweed to a small pot of boiling water and soft boil for 10 minutes. Remove seaweed from the pot and put into a strainer, then rinse with cold water. In a medium bowl, combine seaweed with all ingredients except for the sesame seeds. Mix ingredients thoroughly and allow flavors to infuse for 20 minute to an hour. Sprinkle with sesame seeds before serving.
Why You'll Love It:
Sea vegetables are one of the highest sources of calcium, iron, and potassium. They cleanse the body of toxins, are excellent for nervous system and digestive health, and are a perfect food for vegetarians. It is simple to add sea veggies to salads, soups, or as a garnish or topping for a variety of dishes. If you aren't sure where you can quickly pick up some sea veggies, check out the Hello Veggie Store. I've stocked up on a variety for your convenience.
